In customer service, a voicebot is software that holds a spoken conversation with a customer: it listens, understands natural language, and answers or acts, typically over the phone. Unlike a menu that asks callers to press numbers, a voicebot lets the customer simply say what they need.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How a Voicebot Works<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

A voicebot chains four capabilities. Speech recognition turns the caller\u2019s words into text. Natural language understanding works out what the caller means. A decision layer determines the response or action, often connecting to business systems. Speech synthesis then speaks the reply. The loop runs continuously through the conversation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  • A chatbot does the same job in text channels: chat, messaging, web. A voicebot is the spoken equivalent.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • A traditional IVR routes callers through fixed menus with keypad input. A voicebot replaces menus with open conversation, although modern IVRs increasingly blend the two.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • The terms voicebot and artificial intelligence (AI) voice agent are often used interchangeably.
